I always have a hard time with visual novels. Some I bootup and they are super interesting and compelling, but then I end the session either out of life calls or boredom. I comeback, but each time I comeback it's harder and hard to boot it up again. Then after too long I forget parts of the story 'so far', get frustrated for not remembering and shelf it completely cause I don't want to replay and repeat the cycle.
I think the main problem is I kinda know what I'm going to get and it's not enough. So unlike an online game where you could get a human connection or something unique its lacking and relies solely on an interesting character here or there to hold you over.
Should I look for a more 'social' way to play a visual novel? Or what else can I try to help me finish them? It's disappointing I always have to spoil the basis of the story just to find one that might hold my interest. Because most are through platforms like "steam"....they aren't 'rated 18+' but some ARE a hidden 18+...but to find which u have to spoil the 'why'. And additionally having to read reviews to findout if its censored in any way...and at which parts....ruins surprises. Is there like a VN bookclub with booklist? That might help with some of that anyways.
VN's I've played and the problems:
doki doki I ONLY finished cause of the 'stuff' that happens. I would
never have finished it if it was just the first day or so of content
over and over. Infact I woulda given up if i didn't hear about the
"stuff" that happens after.
The miskatonic I could finish easily due to liking the universe,
feeling immersed in the story, and MC and sides being kinda
unpredictable. And the story not afraid to "go there".
Everlasting summer was compelling cause you knew somehow you'd have
the option of conquering at least 1 of these interesting girls...and
it had uncensored scenes so you could see something 'unique'...ala
primordially interesting.
That german ww2 spinoff futuresque DER WHIJIFJO whatever was insanely
compelling, but the sheer length caused me to giveup when it got slow
and I couldnt' comeback or I'd have to replay the whole thing as
explained cause i lost my place.
EDEN as well I had the problem of the main story not occuring fast
enough and me losing interest between sessions more and more. I was
also angry I didn't have the uncensored version, so I knew the
immersion could only go so far.
