Last.fm takes the privacy of its users very seriously and towards the end of the month we will be introducing improvements to how we handle your personal information. More details about this will be posted nearer the time.
One change is that we are going to have to remove all legacy pages of the old Last.fm as these pages are read-only snapshots (like cached pages on Google or the Wayback Machine) and are no longer wired to the main user database.
While we had always planned to decommission these pages eventually, we had hoped to keep them online until a suitable replacement had been built. Unfortunately, that is no longer possible, with some exceptions outlined below:
Journals
Past journal entries will be ported over to the new site, with bbcode formatting. However, shoutbox comments cannot be preserved.
The Last.fm public API documentation
We are planning to upgrade the API soon, however in the meantime the existing API documentation will be preserved for reference along with the ability to register API keys.
Groups, Forums, and Playlists
Unfortunately, the old Last.fm groups, forums, and user playlists will no longer be accessible. We are unable to bring these features back to the website at this time.
Miscellaneous pages:
Label pages, venue pages, and build will no longer be accessible.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

And question for team is: by "However, shoutbox comments cannot be preserved" you mean journal shoutboxes or general ones for artists? I guess it's for journals, as I even remember such thing, but just want to be sure. Whole message is kinda sad, honestly saying.

but label pages and *venue pages*... really? why don't you remove the whole events section, if you don't bring back a fundamental part of the events' search and archiving. I'm really disappointed.

but it still seems you *don't want* people attending gigs on your site.
1 - seeing which events a single venue hosted in the past and will host in the future helps people to join more events.
2 - correcting/updating venues' wrong details (address etc) helps people to join more events.
3 - seeing which events your friends are attending (in a sub-section as it was before) helps people to join more events too.
you apparently don't care of these things, and it seems we have to renounce to 1) and 2) forever. :(

An artist page isn't a personal page.
However, email addresses would have to be removed from the site on request as far as I know.

I will no longer visit my profile because I don’t see a point of hanging on my profile 24/7 when the Groups will never return. Can somebody explain to me what is going on here? Will the Groups, Journals, “About Me,” recent friends activity, recent listeners list, top listeners for albums and playlists return or not? If Spotify can have a personal forum, and recent friends activity then I don’t see a reason why Last.FM is not able to bring it back.

They didn't say anything about new journal entries.

I also have a "legacy" account that I lost my password for but I was able to rediscover some old music I used to listen to, and I was shocked to see how much interaction happened with my old profile, because ever since signing up again with this new profile, I've only had one random person contact me because we shared the same music taste - that used to happen all the time, connecting with people who shared the same music. I miss that.

It used to be the Facebook of music lovers, but way better than Facebook.
Now? It's not even a shell of its former self.. however, last.fm is an amazing music database and if anything it is a way for users to track and journal their music habits. As someone who listens to music 24/7 and takes it too seriously, last.fm has been a blessing to me. I hate when I've realised I haven't scrobbled for 2 weeks because my scrobbling method was acting up. I love the charts, but mostly love the music history.
I would love a way to self-host last.fm, but imagine the size of database you'd eventually need? Imagine the hosting costs for last.fm lol
-- Is it possible to Scrobble to your own self-hosted server? I'd be interested in fooling around with that if there is a source.. I doubt it but let me know anyone who reads this and knows >>>_>> (Not directed at you OP)
If it came to it, I'd wish for last.fm to depreciate everything except for Scrobbling.. Really, with all the other methods of socialization, to me last.fm is a way to store my listening history and share it with the social media sites
that I use to socialize.

Last.fm takes the privacy of its users very seriously
In my opinion this is what they mean - the new GDPR laws force them to take the necessary measures to anonymize their internal databases unless there's a good reason for accessing that information and they don't want to spend time on doing this on legacy (read only) databases.
I don't usually agree with Last.fm's latest decision, but this time I think it's a proper decision. From my understanding they are not saying these features will never come back, but they can't come back at this moment and because of GDPR there's no alternative than to remove them.

3:10 - 3:52 will be the answer, Jan, even if it's said about YouTube instead of Last.fm :> even when loving someone, you still can complain, no matter how useless this can be.. just emotional thing

as you see, even this site is giving its users the right to decide whether to edit, or remove the post they made on their discretion, i guess at least we need to be provided specific reasons on why that ought to be taken place, even when we are not subscribers.
asking out users to be subscribers, especially if it thinks that running of specific pages rather cost, or something more openly, like wikipedia or guardian does is also an option to me, without making that decision without providing any specific reasons behind them.

shoutbox comments cannot be preserved.
what is the reason behind the decision, even when the legacy site was active, it was even taking more additional time loading these contents with blank parts what i posted some copyrighted images of others from elsewhere online which needed to be suggested thus like deleted posts of tumblr do to make users sure that there never were posts which any given users posted even was helpful to stop having worries from them, too

Someone also created a JavaScript bookmarklet for copying your playlists to a CSV file, maybe it still works.
Only the comments on journals are affected, not the normal ones on artist or user profiles. But the journals themselves will be ported over to the new site with BBCode.
